Professional buying agents to cover your back

As qualified real estate agents, we have set up our sister company Pierce & Sharp as Andorra’s only exclusive buying agency. Having full personal representation has helped many of our clients find their dream property, stopped many others from overpaying and given all of them the full legal and professional support needed in the contract write up, understanding of taxes and payments and in the general deciphering of Andorra’s real estate market.

Q&A

I want to buy a property in Andorra. Can I engage Andorra Guides to represent my best interests during this process?

Absolutely! As professionals in the real estate world also, we come with valuable qualifications in the areas of valuation, architecture and property consultancy. We set up Andorra’s only exclusive buyer’s agency and are here to support any kind of property transaction or query around real estate in Andorra.

We can assist with much needed due diligence like land planning, zoning issues, avalanche risk and so on, as well as classic valuation and architectural reporting. We can help you find the perfect new build or support in uncovering a team of builders to construct or refurbish. The negotiation culture is different in Andorra, and our goal is to ensure you are never overpaying. This due diligence can also go a long way with Andorra’s banks, to help you to gain a substantial mortgage, if you so desire.

Can I exchange my drivers’ licence?

Very possibly. Once you get your residency you have 1 year to exchange your existing license to an Andorran one. License exchanges are possible from Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, The Netherlands and UK.

For UK licenses, Andorra will currently only exchange the categories for a car and a car plus trailer. Any other categories, such as large or heavy goods vehicles, will be lost and the exams will need to be re-sat with a local driving school.

There’s no drivers’ licence exchange system between my home country and Andorra. How can I get a local licence?

You will need to sit a theory test, and then take a practical exam. If you do this within your first year of residency in Andorra, it can be done in English. After this time, you are obligated to do the exam in Catalan. For this reason we encourage you to do so shortly after getting your residency card.

Can I import my car to Andorra?

Yes, although there are restrictions. The first being that Andorra does not accept right hand drive cars. The second is that cars must meet Euro 6 emissions standards and be manufactured no more than 5 years ago. If you can show that you have owned the car for 6+ months prior to the date of your residency, you will be able to import it without it being taxed (again).

It’s possible to import classic cars as well. To pass as a classic, the vehicle must be 25 years old, and in ‘perfect state’. Import applications must be accompanied by a Certificate of Conformity, photos, and approval from the Automobile Club of Andorra.
